2025 lunations calendar
My 2025 lunations calendar is entirely hand drawn in graphite, then professionally printed by an independent printer on thick matte 300gsm paper. It is spiral bound for flat hanging. A limited run of calendars are available for 2025.
Each lunar month begins on the new moon. To keep you on track with the rest of the world, the Gregorian calendar date is given in each date square.
Over the centuries and around the world people have given names to the full moons. While these names differ between cultures and times, they share in common that they are each a reflection of what is happening in nature at a particular time of year. In this way, these names embody the movement of the seasons as the moon repeats its cycle throughout the year.
When the calendar is hanging open it measures roughly 10 1/2” x 17” (27cm x 43cm).
Choose the US version or the UK version, which differ as follows:
US: Weeks begin with Sunday, Times are CST/CDT. This year I have chosen the moon names and moon names used by the Anishinaabeg people in the Great Lakes Region of the United States and Canada. Lunar months are named as: Bear, Snow Crust, Broken Snowshoe, Boiling Sap, Blooming, Berry, Wild Rice, Turnig Leaves, Falling Leaves, Freezing, Little Spirit, and Spirit.
UK: Weeks begin with Monday. Times are GMT/BST. This calendar uses moon names that are found in the old almanacs of Britain. In this calendar, the ‘blue moon’ appears in its traditional placement, as the third full moon occurring in a season of four full moons. This is an anomaly that takes place once every 2 - 3 years. Lunar months are named as: Moon after Yule, Wolf, Lenten, Egg, Milk, Flower, Hay, Grain, Blue, Fruit, Harvest, Hunter's, and Moon before Yule.
